Peace on the Beach

It's a dream of mine...to retire to the beach and live in a small, cozy cottage looking out over the ocean. Home Sweet Home!  I grew up near the water and trips to the beach were common.  We'd leave early in the morning and leave as the sun was setting.  Everything was just better there (even the sandwiches and fresh iced tea we'd bring along).  I loved the smell of the salt air, seagulls squawking above, kids laughing, the sound of ocean waves. I think those are my most favorite memories!

For my card, I began creating a sky and sand background with distress oxide inks.  Using one of the house stamps in Holiday Gnomes, I white embossed on Lead and Stormy cardstock to create a row of beach houses.  The gulls, rope and reeds are from the new Let's Shellabrate stamp set and coordinating dies.  To finish, I added the sun and clouds from the Sun 'n Clouds die set and stamped one of the sentiments from Sentimental Sayings.

Thanks to these challenges for the inspiration...

  7. LOVE this...a perfectly happy little beach scene, and no seagull poop in sight, LOL! (That's always a worry at the beach, don't you think?) Love your little beach houses and your colors are divine! Thanks for playing with As You See It this week!

  9. Kathy, this couldn't be more perfect for our challenge, I absolutely love it!! The soft, grey-like colours set such a wonderful scene and love how you coloured the seagulls. So much attention to detail, its really amazing and I'm so happy you shared it with us at TIME OUT!

  10. I LOVE this card. Even more than the card, I love the story behind it. I share your love for the beach, and I too grew up going to the beach frequently. My Aunt Gina would pull up to our house in her Pontiac convertable, and my sisters and I would jump in with the cooler our mother packed with sandwiches, fruit, treats and drinks and we'd spend the day. Thank you for sharing this delightful creation at Time Out. It certainly is a wonderful interpretation of the inspiration piece.
